The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020)
1968, Chicago. The police chose seven exponents of the leftist youth counterculture as scapegoats to justify the violent repression that took place during the democratic convention in the city. Among them also Bobby Seale, co-founder of Black Panther. Who however was only passing through Chicago that day.
A judge full of doubts transforms what was expected to be a straightforward process towards convicting the defendants into a political case with unexpected implications in “The Trial of the Chicago 7” (2020).
The film, written by Aaron Sorkin (known for The Social Network and Code of Honor) and directed by Molly’s Game director, features an ensemble cast including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Frank Langella, and many others. It received 5 Academy Award nominations.
The Good Nurse (2022)
Starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain, The Good Nurse takes its cue from the true story of Charlie Cullen. A nurse who killed 40 people in his 16-year career (only 29 of which he confirmed).
In truth the police always thought the number was much higher. Thus making him potentially one of the most prolific serial killers in history.
On Netflix you can find Cullen’s story also in the documentary The killer nurse .
Dunkirk (2017)
Christopher Nolan’s film ( Inception , The Dark Knight ) is the film adaptation of what happened on the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940, during the Second World War.
Following the invasion of France by Nazi Germany, in fact, thousands of allied soldiers find themselves trapped in the strip of land that separates the country from the sea.
It was thanks to the heroic intervention of hundreds of British civilians who arrived by sea to rescue them, that many managed to save themselves.
Dunkirk is an immersive experience in the feelings and facts that characterize a war conflict, mostly in a moment of great difficulty.
The director thought of it in IMAX, but also seen on the small screen has its reason.
